To promote cooperative housing in the country and to coordinate and facilitate the operations of housing cooperatives.
To organize cooperative education, training and information programmes

To undertake such other activities as are conducive or incidental to the attainment of the objectives of the Federation.

The Powers and functions (duties) of the Chairman and the Managing Director of the Federation are laid down in the Bye-laws of NCHF (available on the website). The Managing Director exercise control over the staff of the Federation.

3. The procedure followed in the decision making process, including channels of supervision and accountability.
1. General Body
Presided over by the Chairman. Each member institution (except nominal members) is represented by one delegate elected/nominated to the General Body by member institution. General Body is the ultimate authority in all matters related to the administration of the Federation.
2. Board of Directors
Presided over by the Chairman. The Board consists of 19 elected directors from member institutions, 2 nominees of the Central Government, one representative of Life Insurance Corporation of India and the Managing Director, NCHF.
3. Executive Committee
Headed by the Chairman and consists of seven members including one representative of the Government of India
4. Chairman
Presides over all meetings. Spokesman of policy of the Federation. Competent to take decisions of urgent and emergent nature effecting the policy of the Federation.
5. Managing Director
Handling day-to-day affairs.
